Malice

MALICE by Lisa Clark O’Neill

A Russian immigrant with ties to organized crime is dead.   Brutally executed, it’s Savannah FBI agent Jesse Wellington’s job to find the killer. Only problem is the #1 suspect is Jillian Montgomery, his partner’s friend. Jillian has a history with law enforcement, she’s petrified of them and doesn’t trust them, which means Jesse needs to go undercover, deceiving her in order to gather the evidence he needs.  There’s only one problem, he may be falling for her.

But when Jillian’s past veers it’s ugly head and secrets begin to unravel, her life is in danger. Jesse is determined to help her no matter the consequences, whether she likes it or not. Only problem is, she may be falling for him.

Malice is a fun fast-paced  creepy thriller that will leave you breathless.  As a prequel to the Southern Comfort Series, Lisa’s character development is tight and multi-layered, and I often found myself talking back to them, so invested in their lives. There’s a lot going on in this book,  which I loved and why I class it a thriller over a mystery.  I also liked the way that PTSD is addressed in the story without it seeming trite. If you haven’t read the series, I highly recommend.
